International Freight Services
How To Choose The Best International Freight ServicesThe business scenario is changing globally. BRIC economies of Brazil, Russia, India and China have become important global business destinations. Exports and Imports have increased manifold from the previous decade. This has made international freight services more important and liners are adding to their fleet to satisfy global customers. The business of worldwide freight services is complicated and involves many countries across international waters. US registered international freight companies have ocean transport intermediary license authorised by the federal maritime commission to operate freight services. National and International freight carriers offer a wide range of service such as air and ocean freight, import and export shipment, local haulage services, packing and crating, customs clearance, obtaining licenses for exporters and businesses, carnets, documents for cargo transport, negotiating letters of credits with banks and cargo insurance. Business houses require all these services when moving international freight. The best freight operators in the business have individual departments which handle these functions efficiently so that customers do not face problems when moving their goods across borders. If your company transports bulk goods then ocean liners are the only mode of transport. They transport goods in 20 feet or 40 feet containers and your goods are shipped either on full container load (FCL) or on LCL (less container load). Generally freight carriers are registered as bonded and fully insured N.V.O.C.C. (non vessel operating common carrier) and as OTI (Ocean transport intermediary). The computation of fees for ocean liners can be done on a FCL or LCL. The charges are calculated based on the weight and the measurement of the cargo. The calculation is done by checking the volume of each package. The standard unit of measurement is cubic meters. Some businesses require freight to be moved very fast from one destination to another. These goods are generally of higher value and are mostly sensitive goods such as computer goods or medical equipment. In such cases there is no option other than moving the cargo by a worldwide freight services company which has air transport facility. All leading freight carriers have the option of moving cargo by air. Air freight charges are higher than ocean freight. It is calculated by multiplying the carrier rate with the actual chargeable weight of the cargo. The chargeable weight is the gross weight of the cargo or the volumetric weight, whichever is higher is taken as the bases of calculation. When you are transporting goods by cargo it is important that you declare the dimensions of your cargo explicitly because air carriers have specific cargo door sizes. Cargo is carried in standard containers and the sizes of the containers are 20' standard which have maximum payload of 21670 kg, 20' flatrack which have maximum payload of 22444 kg, 40' standard which have a maximum payload of 26330 kg, 40' high-cube containers which have a maximum payload of 26100 kg, 40' flatrack which have a maximum payload of 39,655 kg. There are overweight charges which are levied according to the 1992 Intermodal safe container transportation act of 1992 in the United States. Depending on the size of your cargo you can choose the best option for your requirements. The objective should be that your goods move fast and safely to their destination. Choosing an international freight service should not be difficult! |
